Adele M. Luta is an expert in cognitive neuroscience, advancing the study of the neural mechanisms underling cognition and the resulting mental processes and their behavioral manifestations. Her focus is on operations, teams, and advanced cognitive skills in life-critical, time-limited, restricted communication environments at MIT’s Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department and as a technical team member to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Science and Technology Organization.
She has also guided development of biological and tactical breakthrough technologies for the U.S.A. Department of Defense’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
As a physicist, she was inspired to explore cognitive neuroscience through her roles in the Mission Control Center as a flight controller and astronaut instructor at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). She enjoys challenging her own cognitive
processes by flying and SCUBA diving.
